SASHA GUSOV

This month we turn the spotlight on a Russian photographer who never let the Bolshoi Ballet out of his sights
Earlier this year, Russian photographer Sasha Gusov spent 40 long days and nights in the company of the Bolshoi Ballet — Russia's premier dance company. The Bolshoi were performing in London, and Gusov showed the artistic director his portfolio, who was suitably impressed and Gusov was hired more or less on the spot. During the period, Gusov had complete access to the artists, who trusted him and were willing to pout accordingly.
Gusov was accepted within the company; obviously speaking the language was an advantage but Gusov has a great deal of charm that people naturally respond to, whether off or on camera. Gusov is now 32 and he has lived in London for four years. His aim is to get a book published on his work with the Bolshoi Ballet which is already generating some interest
He describes himself as a photographer specialising in reportage and portraiture — which is why this assignment fired his imagination.
